June 18 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Ron Janowski – Breakout from Normandy

After the Allied landings in Normandy, commanders began to formulate a plan to push out from the beachhead. Initial efforts were hampered by the need to take the city of Caen in the east and the dense hedgerow country in the west. Seeking to launch a major breakout, General Omar Bradley sought to focus the Allies’ efforts on a narrow front west of St. Lô.

Lieutenant Colonel (US Army Retired) Ron Janowski is a 1976 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and is a 2013 Master of Military History from Norwich University.  Both a veteran and an ‘Army brat,’ Ron has traveled extensively throughout his life.  He served twenty-two years active duty in the Field Artillery in the United States, Germany, and Canada.  He is a 1998 graduate of the Army War College.  Upon retirement from the Army, Ron taught Junior (high school) ROTC from 1998 to 2017  He is married to Karen Waid, also a veteran, since 1981.  They have a son, Philip.
