For years, Service Credit Union has supported the Wright Museum in its efforts to honor the contributions of those who have served the nation, a partnership renewed with “WASP: The Untold Story.”
An exhibit curated by the National WASP WWII Museum in Sweetwater, Texas, “WASP: The Untold Story” recounts how women made substantial contributions to the World War II effort. “During the war, women were trained as pilots and tested experimental and repaired aircraft,” said museum Executive Director Mike Culver. “Women made many other substantial contributions to the war effort, which this exhibit chronicles.”
According to Wendy Beswick, VP of Marketing at Service Credit Union, the exhibit is important, because it “highlights extraordinary women in our nation’s history” about whom “most people have never even heard.” “We are honored to sponsor this amazing exhibit,” she said. “As a credit union that serves military members, veterans and their families across the world, the exhibit is especially meaningful to us and our members.”
When the WASP program concluded in December 1944, according to Culver, women had flown more than 60 million miles in 78 different types of aircraft. “This is a unique exhibit that demonstrates the important role women have always had in our country,” he said.
In addition to presenting the exhibit, which runs May 1 to June 10, Service Credit Union is sponsoring several related initiatives in the 2021 season. During the exhibit’s run, Service Credit Union staff and one guest may be admitted for free. In addition, Service Credit Union members will be admitted for free every Saturday, May 1 through June 10.In honor of International Credit Union Day, members from any credit union in New Hampshire (plus one guest) will enjoy free admission on Saturday, October 23.
“We want to do all we can to present life enhancement opportunities for anyone associated with Service Credit Union in a spirit of mutual cooperation, which is the credit union way,” said Culver.
In addition to presenting sponsor Service Credit Union, WASP: The Untold Story is made possible by Pratt & Whitney.
